Some of the most significant work happening in Cambodia right now started with one person and a football, trying to pull Cambodian youth away from gambling and violence.
The idea was simple: give young people something worth showing up for.
Today, forty youth (called Mighty Girls and Mighty Men) are selected from villages across Battambang. They come from backgrounds marked by trafficking, poverty, and abuse. Through a full-time program of soccer, education, and discipleship, they are equipped to lead, coach, and mentor others.
Then they go. Each one coaches their own team in their home village. SALT runs youth leagues that reach between 600 and 1,200 young people every week, depending on the season, with Mighty Girls and Men coaching, refereeing, and helping make them run. Festivals carry the Gospel into remote communities across Cambodia, with Mighty Girls and Men playing a central role in making them happen. What was invested in forty multiplies far beyond what forty could do alone.
Sport opens doors that other methods rarely do. In Cambodia, where football is a shared language across every community, SALT uses that reach deliberately.
