What this team does
Two things happen on this team and they feed each other.
The first is the everyday work of keeping the base running well. Sound, video, photography, lighting, slides. If something is happening at UofN Battambang, this team is behind it. Chapel, events, conferences, outreach, training. The work is real, it is consistent, and it matters more than most people realize until it goes wrong.
The second is New Sound Cambodia. For nearly a decade, this team has been doing something that has rarely been done: writing original worship music in Khmer, for Khmer people, out of Khmer faith. Not translated songs. Not borrowed melodies. Songs that come from inside this culture and this generation.
Technical skill and creative mission both sit inside the same team, share the same staff, and push each other forward.
Why this work matters
Some work disappears the moment it is done. This team’s work stays.
When a team goes into a village for outreach, someone from this team is there with a camera. When a conference brings leaders from across the region together, this team is running the equipment. When UofN Battambang needs to show the world what is being built here, it is this team’s footage and photography that tells that story. Those images have appeared in print publications, helped raise funds for buildings that are now used every day to serve and train Cambodians, and been used by YWAM bases and ministries across the region.
That is the media side. Consistent, skilled, behind the scenes, and quietly essential.
Then there is New Sound Cambodia.
Something has shifted in Cambodian worship over the past decade and New Sound has been part of accelerating it. More than 30 original Khmer worship songs have been written and recorded here in Battambang. Those songs are now being sung in churches across Cambodia. That is not a small thing.
Nearly a decade in, the channel has grown to over 18,800 subscribers and more than 85 videos. Songs like Your Grace and When I’m Weak have reached tens of thousands of listeners. A single beginner guitar lesson in Khmer has been watched over 535,000 times. That number says something about how hungry Khmer musicians are for training in their own language.
Both sides of this team are part of the same vision: to see Cambodia transformed in one generation, what we call 1 Nation, 1 Generation. The media team is how that vision gets documented, amplified, and heard.
What You Need to Know About Joining
You do not need to arrive with professional skills. Some on the team came with experience. Others learned everything here. What matters more is that you are teachable, you show up, and you care about the work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need musical ability to join this team?
No. The media side of the team (Sound, video, photography, lighting) does not require musical skill. If you are drawn to the music and New Sound side, some musical background helps, but people have been trained from scratch here. Come with the interest and the willingness to learn.
I have done my DTS somewhere else. Can I still apply for Media & Music here?
Yes. We welcome DTS graduates from other YWAM bases. You will go through the standard staff application process and the team will help you understand what joining looks like from where you are.
What will my day to day actually look like?
It depends on what is happening on base. On a typical week, you might be running sound for gatherings, editing footage for another ministry, or sitting in on a songwriting session with the New Sound team. During conferences or large events, the workload increases and the whole team pulls together.
What Visa do I need?
Do not get a tourist visa.
In order to comply with local laws, please get an Ordinary Visa, also known as a Business Visa.
This will allow you to volunteer and is the only visa that is possible to extend.
What should I pack?

My family does not understand why I would pay to serve rather than earn a salary. How do I explain this?
Many staff have walked this same path. They have had conversations with their families about this. Some families understood while others took longer to understand.

What are the staff fees?
Our goal is to make missions accessible to everyone, so we use a tiered pricing structure to keep staffing costs affordable for all wanting to serve. Fees cover housing, food, and operations.
Cambodia’s relatively low cost of living, especially compared to Western countries, means your support goes further here than in many other mission contexts.

How do I raise my staff contribution?
Most staff raise their support through personal donors, home churches, and family. It takes planning and it is a normal part of YWAM life worldwide. We do not have a formal fundraising program, but others who have done it are happy to share what worked for them.
