Requirements
What it Takes
Have successfully completed a DTS at any YWAM location worldwide.
Participate in our School of Ministry Development (SOMD) upon joining staff.
Participate in our Khmer Boot Camp (KBC) if you’re an international coming to Cambodia.
Commit to a minimum of 2 years.
Be willing to live cross culturally.
SOMD
All incoming staff participate in SOMD as part of their onboarding process.
Even if you have staffed elsewhere, we believe healthy integration matters. We build unity through shared foundations.
SOMD equips you in cambodian culture, language foundations, ministry philosophy on our campus, personal leadership growth as well long term sustainability.
We believe this model strengthens faith, accountability, and long term sustainability.
KBC
Khmer Boot Camp is a dedicated part of SOMD designed specifically for incoming international staff. This program is created to help you build a strong foundation in Khmer language, Cambodian culture, and everyday communication so you can transition well into both life and ministry in Cambodia.
More than just a language course, KBC is designed to help you integrate in a healthy way, build meaningful relationships, and serve more effectively within the local community. As part of the School of Ministry Development, it helps prepare you not only for ministry, but for long term, sustainable life and leadership in Cambodia.
By the end of KBC, you will have developed foundational skills in singing, speaking, translating, and reading in Khmer.
Finance
All staff are self-supported missionaries.
This means:
- You raise monthly financial support
- You build a partnership team
- You communicate vision clearly

Do I need staff insurance?
All staff must arrive in Battambang with their own health insurance that is valid in Cambodia and covers health costs incurred here. U of N Battambang does not provide insurance for anyone on campus—students, staff, or mission builders—and cannot be held responsible for any of their medical costs.
Proof of insurance may be required to show on your arrival day. This insurance must cover your entire time in Battambang as well specifically (Medivac).
Short-term health insurance can be purchased online before you arrive. To find different options available, research “short-term health insurance” and choose a plan that meets your health needs. For liability reasons, the University of the Nations Battambang cannot recommend a specific health insurance provider.

What are the staff fees?
Our goal is to make missions accessible to everyone, so we use a tiered pricing structure to keep staffing costs affordable for all wanting to serve.
This will include housing, food and operations.

What Visa do I need?
Do not get a tourist visa.
In order to comply with local laws, please get an Ordinary Visa, also known as a Business Visa.
This will allow you to volunteer and is the only visa that is possible to extend.
